Cityscapes (Trombone Quartet)

About This Piece

Cityscapes (Vol. 1) explores five different cities in the USA. each movement represents different aspects of the city that makes it well know or an aspect that is significant to the city. (Also Available for Sax Quartet)

1) Bourbon Street

Based off the city of New Orleans, Louisiana and named after a very famous street, this movement grooves as it paints a picture of a vibrant nightlife filled with neon lights and parties.

2)Steam Powered

Based off the city of Richmond, Virginia; this movement explores the cities’ history with steam power. Richmond sits on a river which is reflected in the constantly moving texture.

3) In the Sound

Based off the city Seattle, Washington and named after the Puget sound where seattle resides. This movement creates a foggy soundscape where the melody is hidden in the sound.

4) Train Yard

Based off the city Detroit Michigan, this movement explores Detroit’s history with trains. The movement sounds rough and dark to paint the picture of being at a train yard filled with broken down trains.

5) The Strip

The final movement of this piece is based off of Las Vegas, Nevada. This movement makes reference to ‘New york New york’ Which contrary to its name is a song associated with Las Vegas. That mixed with a Mambo style section help to portray the constant party that is Las Vegas.
