The Day the Wind Stopped

About This Piece

The Day the Wind Stopped

For Wind Ensemble

Charles Edward Tetreault was born on December 8th, 2001. Over 22 years later, he decided to hike a trail at Sunrise in Mt. Rainier Park on September 16, 2024. Tragically, he went missing and was found on September 26th after a fatal fall. At his untimely death, he was a Clarinet Music Performance Major and an Instrumental Music Education Major at Central Washington University.

Central Washington University is known for a few things but mainly the intense winds that plague the area year round. When the news broke that Charles had passed it was noticeably the only day in a few months that there was no wind.

The latter half of the piece contains fragments of “Peace I Leave with You” by Barbara Bridge as this was the song Charles’ mother had requested to be sung at his vigil. I wrote this piece as both a way to process my grief over losing a friend and as a memorial to him.
