This piece was originally Commissioned for the Cheney High School Woodwind Choir. Heat Lightning is a flash or flashes of light seen near the horizon, especially on warm evenings, believed to be the reflection of distant lightning on high clouds. This piece starts slowly creating an unsettling atmosphere that reflects an oncoming storm before suddenly changing to a fast-paced tempo reflecting the quick and destructive nature of lightning. This piece was my first-ever commission and quickly became one of my favorites.
